Fourth of July Jonesport Maine

Fourth of July

If you only visit Jonesport once, make it the Fourth of July. What happens here every summer is unlike any other Independence Day celebration in New England. Known as the Moosabec Summerfest, the festivities stretch over several days and include lobster crate races, a lobster dinner, and the famous World’s Fastest Lobster Boat Races on Moosabec Reach. The celebration runs from late June through July 5th with a full week of activities including a car show, Miss 4th of July Pageant, craft fair, community church service, children’s pet show, ice cream social, and a children’s mini parade. Right around the Fourth of July, about 100 lobster boats race on Moosabec Reach to determine who has the World’s Fastest Lobster Boat for that year — and watching them thunder down the Reach from shore is something you will never forget. Jonesport caps it all off with fireworks over the water — one of the most spectacular settings for a Fourth of July show anywhere on the Maine coast. And with Sea Duck Cottage sitting right on Moosabec Reach, you’ll have the best seat in the house for all of it.
